Travel Tryouts & Registration

2021-2022 MGBA Traveling Basketball Evaluations begin this weekend

Evaluations for the 2021-2022 Minnetonka Girls Basketball traveling season begin this weekend.  Here is a link to our player evaluation/tryout page, which includes the dates, times and location of evaluations.

Please arrive 30 minutes before your first scheduled tryout session and enter in the West Entrance.  One parent should accompany their child into the “Black Box” at the West Entrance for uniform sizing. (Note: This is not typical to size before team placements- but due to COVID product limitations, uniforms will be ordered as soon as team placements are complete to ensure arrival before our first tournament.)

Parents and athletes will need to wear a mask upon entering the building and during the uniform and check-in process.. Players may remove their masks once they enter the gym and begin playing. We do ask that you continue to try to socially distance whenever possible.  Please do not go to tryouts/bring your child to tryouts if either of you are feeling ill or have a temperature 100F or greater.

Once uniform sizing is complete, we ask that parents leave the building. Athletes will check-in and get their tryout pinnies and be escorted to the gym by a coach.

All players will exit through the West Entrance for pick-up at the end of their scheduled session. Parents are asked not to come back into the school at the end of tryouts, please wait outside for your player.

Team Composition Guidelines: Travel Teams

  • Athletes must try out and compete with the travel association within the community where they reside (this is considered to be the athlete’s Home association) or attend school.
  • Exceptions
    • In situations involving “split families,” the athlete may participate with the association where the mother or father reside with the following stipulation: For the “split family” exception, please refer to the address that the player's school has on file to determine which association(s) the player is eligible to participate with.
    • If there is not a travel association within the community where the athlete resides or attends school, or if the athlete has been cut or restricted from their home association, they may participate with a bordering association.

Tryout Format

The MGBA board is responsible for organizing and administering tryouts for all players.  Our high school coaches, professional coaches and other evaluators are hired to assess the players. Each player is represented by a number, not a name. Numbers are assigned at try-out check in table. MGBA Board members are not present during tryout sessions. The Tryout Coordinator and Coach/Player Development positions will work together with the evaluators to form the teams. MGBA Board members are not involved in the actual evaluation of the players or in the selection of teams.

On what skills will my player be evaluated and how are evaluation scores tallied?
Independent evaluators will score your player based on how she performs in individual skills, basketball drills and team scrimmage situations, including:

  • Live Action
  • Defense
  • Shooting
  • Ball handling (Dribbling)
  • Passing

Minnetonka Girls Basketball Association Refund policy:
